Full dentures are used to replace all of the teeth in the lower and/or upper arches. A denture consists of two parts: a substrate that is made of acrylic material and the teeth that are usually made of resin or ceramic.
The denture replaces the existing teeth, thus, it must conform to the natural contour and shape of the mouth. Denture stays in place because of the ridge, palatal and mouth muscles. The underlying bone structure of the mouth might shrink because of age or if the patient remains without any prosthetic dental fixtures after the tooth loss . Thus, a common problem with dentures is retention that can be improved with dental implants. Special dental implants are inserted to the bone with a ball shape head and the denture is equipped with the female component. The denture is snapped in place and remains in place until the patient removes them for cleaning.
